Yali Peng
Yali Peng (Korea/Japan ) holds a Master of Liberal Studies degree in Art and Healing/Health and Wellness from the University of Minnesota. She has been exhibiting since 1994. She currently works in abstract ink painting, Chinese/Japanese calligraphy, black and white and colour nature/landscape photography, light sculpture, woven basketry and artist books. She has taught art at numerous art centres and schools in Minnesota. Her art is in many private and corporate collections. She has several publications and awards for her photography.
The most unique aspect of her art is her ability to capture certain energies (music, sound, light, movement, etc.) or images from film, theatre and literature, or concepts from non-art disciplines such as health fields, and then transform the energy into visual art, or capture and freeze the moment as visual poetry through photography.
She carefully chooses words for the title, which is part of the work as poetry.
Her art philosophy is a reflection of her practice of Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism (Soka Gakkai International).
